We're thrilled to welcome superstar flutist April Clayton and three-time Grammy-nominated pianist-composer Miguel del Aguila to the A-Frame, where they will perform music for flute and piano, composed by del Aguila, prior to recording a new album of that music in May 2024. Clayton describes del Aguila's music as having "Great energy and [being] very audience friendly!"

About Miguel del Aguila
Three-time Grammy nominated contemporary American composer Miguel del Aguila creates distinctive, innovative modern classical music highly influenced by his Latin American roots. A prominent voice in 20th and 21st-century music, he remains a vital influence in contemporary classical music, with 140 compositions that infuse musical diversity into the modern chamber and orchestral music repertoire. His creative, rhythm-driven works blend tradition with modernity with drama and nostalgic nods to his South American Hispanic heritage. With 60 CDs, his music enjoys 200+ live performances yearly, earning acclaim like “brilliant and witty” (NY Times) and “sonically dazzling” (LA Times). Thousands of soloists, ensembles and orchestras commissioned and perform his music worldwide. Besides three Grammy nominations, he received a Kennedy Center Friedheim Award, New Music USA’s Music Alive and Magnum Opus, Copland Foundation awards among many others.

About April Clayton
April Clayton has performed in Edinburgh, Zurich, Riva del Garda, Granada, Leipzig, Vienna, Moscow, Varna, Vancouver, Barbados, Haiti, Aberystwyth, Bahia, throughout South Korea, England, Mexico, and the USA. Dr. Clayton has worked extensively in Paris alongside faculty at the Paris Conservatory, Ecole Normale de Musique, Schola Cantorum, Juilliard, San Francisco Conservatory, Indiana University, and others. Having performed at numerous National Flute Association conventions, she was featured by the NFA in their 2019 Convention “Saturday Headliner Concert.” Her newest project is a YouTube channel called “April Clayton – Flute Tube.” As a student at Juilliard, Dr. Clayton was a Starr Doctoral Fellow and the youngest student to have been admitted to their doctoral program. Dr. Clayton’s students have laid claim to many honors, awards, and professional positions. Former students have won First Place prizes in the National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition, Piccolo Artist Competition, Mock Orchestral Audition, and Young Artist Competition, which is the most prestigious solo flute competition in the United States. For 22 years, April Clayton was Professor of Flute at BYU, where she received the Brigham Young University Young Faculty Award. She was only the second BYU music faculty member to receive this coveted honor in its decades-long history. She is now Director of Flute Studies at Snow College, Utah Valley University, and Artist in Residence at Westminster University. She continues to concertize around the world, and is currently working on three CD recording projects.
